What Causes Cold, Throat Infection And Diarrhea?

Good evening - I have been ill in some form or another since mid-August 2016. Started with a mouth/throat infection, then stomach upset, then cellulitis in right lower leg (hospitalized for five days). While in the hospital, I received IV antibiotics, which gave me diarrhea. I was released with antibiotics, then broke out in severe hives, and on follow-up with my PCP, discovered I had been given meds my chart indicated I was allergic to. This was followed by several weeks of skin conditions, then physical therapy. By the end of Nov. 2016, I got a sore throat, sniffles, alternating between constipation and diarrhea, and continued to feel completely fatigued despite the amount of sleep. For the past two weeks, I ve had difficulty swallowing, throat is extremely sore, going up into both ears, neck muscles are painful, tongue muscle seems strained/painful on both sides near the back. I recently saw my PCP and said I felt this is all connected, one thing after another, since my original mouth/throat infection and the overdose of antibiotics. I have been gargling with hot salt water, alternating between hot TheraFlu and cold AlzaSeltzer for severe cold symptoms, taking Vitamin C, pretty much without relief. I am usually a pretty tough cookie, but I have been miserable nearly every day for the past several months and cannot see any relief in sight at this rate. Any suggestions and insight you can provide would be very much appreciated. I don t know what further information you would need (such as medications or conditions) but assume with my email you can contact me if you have questions or need clarification. Thank you very much! ~ Anita D.

Hello,

As per my clinical appraisal suggests, there is underlying low immunity responsible for such long-term agony. Which has to be evaluated with thorough lab work and x-ray chest for precise management. Primary relief with lukewarm water gargles, cough remedies can be obtained.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
