Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
A month ago I woke up with a small bump on the corner of my mouth. I originally thought that it was just a pimple. It looked like it was going away and then started to turn into what looked like a rash, really red but not sore to the touch, like the first bump. Now it is spreading from the corner on my nose down around my mouth and to my chin. The redness goes away after I wash my face but during the day becomes red and really dry. I ve tried everything from antibacterial to anti-fungal and even a old herbal salve and it still doesn t clear. I recently had a cold sore pop up on my lip and go away with no problem and thought that was strange..... This is really bothering me and I need to know what it is. Is it type 1 herpes? Is it eczema or anything else ? I ve never had this happen before please let me know if you can help. Thank you for your time.
Understanding your concern. As per your query bump on your lip is is canker sore or cold sore . There can be many factors responsible for canker sore like stress, irritation of mucosa due to food ,fruits and drinks, vitamin deficiency and underlying diseases that weaken immune system. It is mainly herpes infection and it doe snot look like eczema. They usually go away by their own without any treatment in week or two or by avoiding trigger factor .I would suggest you to apply some antimicrobial ointment ,start multivitamin supplement containing vitamin B12 and folic acid , quit smoking and drinking at least for some time and apply gel containing benzocaine for pain .If condition persist after 2 weeks then consult dentist for proper examination and to rule out causes like HIV , herpes or oral cancer .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
