Ever since 1986 when I was stationed in southern Spain, I have had a weird rash that occurs on my thumbs at the joint near my palm and on my index fingers. I have tried to figure out why I get these breakouts but the time of year doesn t seem to matter. First, I noticed that usually one blister starts and itching like crazy. I used to break the blisters open and a clear liquid would be inside the blister. The scent was akin to athletes foot so I figure that the blisters are some kind of fungus. If I did not break open the blisters, they would become quite large and eventually collapse and break open without much fluid. After the blister breaks open, the area around the site dries out and then the skin peels off for a larger area than what the blister had been. I reported this problem to my primary care physician but he just gave me some cream that he thought would help. But it didn t and I never pursued the matter because I did not have health insurance at that time. I hope someone can identify this rash and know how to get rid of it. Thank you.
