What Causes Clay Coloured Stool After Taking Fluoxetine?
I'm on 20mg of Fluoxetine a day and I have been taking the pills for a little under two month now. I have noticed a few common side effects of the drug, but I've also noticed an increase in the number of clay or white colored stool as well. Is this a side effect of my medication or should I seek medical attention?
Hello thanks for choosing HCM for your health related queries
Fluoxetine is a SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) drug. You are taking the drug since last 2 months. Over all the drug is safe to use with side effects like nausea, vomiting, insomnia, dizziness etc are commonly. Clay coloured stools can occur in rare patients taking fluoxetine, but the incidence is rare. There is no need to worry but I would suggest you to get your blood tested for serum bilirubin (total, direct, indirect) and SGOT, SGPT tests to rule out any liver involvement. If tests come normal there is no serious risk.
Thanks, hope this helps you.
