What Causes Chronic Vaginal Itching In A Diabetic Person?

Hi, I have had this extreme vaginal itch that sometimes it even bleeds a little cuz I itch so hard. I use anti-itch cream but it only last for a while. I get red, swollen, and irritated by itching all the time. I am so tired of itching. I am 66 yrs old and am a diabetic, could this be the problem? I am not sexually active, no anti bionics, I haven't changed soaps in years. There is no discharge, but sometimes there is a odor. What do you think is going on? What is a good anti-itch cream that you suggest?
Thank You.

Hi,

Your symptoms could be due to vaginal yeast infection. Yeast is a fungus that normally lives in the vagina in small numbers. A vaginal yeast infection means that too many yeast cells are growing in the vagina and infection is very common. It cause itching or soreness in the vagina. Improper hygiene, antibiotic use, diabetes, tight clothing, pure immunity increase the risk of infection.

I would suggest to consult gynecologist and undergo Vaginal suppository of clingen and lactobacilllus will help to treat. Apply Vagisil cream. Wash vagina with warm salted water two-three time a day.
Avoid douching and perfumed soap and cosmetics. Wear pure cotton loose inner and maintain hygiene.

Avoid excessive sweet in diet and manage diabetes (keep Hb A1c between 6.5-7.0 %). Drink plenty of water, eat healthy diet and do regular exercise.

Hope this may help you. Contact further if follow up needed.

Best regards,
Dr. Sagar
