Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 46 yr old mother is having pain in her right arm now for about 04 years. She said sometimes pain spans the whole arm, sometimes just forearm or hands and fingers. She has difficulty moving the hand up or setting a dupatta meaning at right shoulder joint she feels pain on movement, range of motion is also bit limited above the head. She is a known asthmatic for 15 years. She s been taking Ibuprofen and Indomethacin, but now they are not really working. what can be the diagnosis, how to proceed and which specialist to see? Please guide me.
I think you are having impingement syndrome or rotator cuff tear. This can not be diagnosed on the basis of x ray. It will need either examining by a sports medicine surgeon. Or it will need a MRI of the shoulder to confirm this diagnosis. If on MRI there is impingement present then It will need a arthroscopic sub acromial decompression. If there is rotator cuff tear then it will also need cuff repair with the help of arthroscopy and suture anchor repair. I would also like to forbid you that you should not do any type of massage therapy or steroid injection as this may cause more damage to already compromise shoulder tendon.
