Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Chronic Pain Behind The Jaw And The Ear?
I am having pain in my left ear and at the very back of my jaw on the left side. Very painful in both areas when I bite down or open my mouth very wide. The pain extends down into my gland, right below my ear, as well. I have tried ear wax removal drops for several days but I am still in pain. It is not a tooth issue. What could be causing this?
I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about your pain in jaw and ear.
The condition seems to me related to temporomandibular joint. Where pain is in front of ear and radiates to jaw blow. In ear infection there is no pain during mastication (chewing). You need start taking soft food at least a week, apply hot pack on the side of the face. You can also take muscle relaxant after physical examination by dentist.
If you have any missing tooth in opposite side, history of recent filling and you are chewing food only by one side of teeth, you must rectify the cause because these things lead to TMJ problem.
If you still feel you don't have any of the above symptoms and. Signs please visit to ENT spacialist for further evaluation. Hope you will find my answer helpful. Regards Dr Muzaffar
