What Causes Chronic Fatigue With Dull Abdominal Pain?
My 16-year-old son runs cross country and track (one of our school s top runners). He ran the fall cross country and winter indoor track seasons with no problems. But this spring, he s just fatigued. He s had the training and conditioning, but he just has no energy. He s also complaining of a dull ache in his stomach while he runs. He says it goes away almost as soon as he s done running.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Fatigue is an adolescent boy can be due to anemia or low hemoglobin. I suggest you to get your son's complete hemogram which includes hemoglobin estimation and other related investigations associated with red blood cells. Dull aching abdominal pain can occur due to numerous causes. In the presence of fatigue, worms are one of the various possibilities leading to abdominal pain and anemia. Organomegaly or enlargement of any abdominal organ can also cause pain abdomen. Thus, an ultrasound abdomen is required to know the condition of various abdominal organs. I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider or a pediatrician for clinical assessment, relevant investigations and thus management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
