What Causes Chronic Diarrhea?

Have had diarrhea for going on four weeks, went to GP after two weeks, prescribed 10 days of antibiotic, stool sample negative for bacteria, virus or parasites, had colonosopy yesterday, biopsies taken, colon looked good, intestine showed some inflammation. This came on very sudden, not normal, loose stool normally clears in a day or two. Staying hydrated, avoiding meats and solids as much as possible. No stomach pain, but can tell when bowels are active, ie; gurgling, prior meals passing thru at about 12 hours

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If any active organic lesion present in intestine than it can be clear from colonoscopy examination.

Your biopsy report showing only inflammation of intestine that means you are having enteritis.

For that complete course of antibiotic and take semisolid food more.
Avoid excess spicy foods.
Avoid excess tea, coffee.
Drink more water.

Stool culture can be done for further work up.

Probiotic tablet containing lactobacillus will be beneficial.

Take electrolyte powder with water to maintain electrolyte balance.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
