I have bad acid reflux. I just had a colonoscopy done about 3 weeks ago. They found nothing in my colon, however for the last 3 weeks, I ve had diarrhea for 3 weeks since the colonoscopy and lost about 20 pounds in 4 weeks. Normally I am always constipation and have to medication for that. However lately I ve not taken any cause that s when the diarrhea started. I thought I was getting better but a virus doesn t last this long. Can you give me any ideas? My primary Doctor said I was now anemic and my potassium was low.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Persistent diarrhea after colonoscopy lasting for 3 weeks and loosing 20 pounds since then along with anemia and low potassium can be due to changed bacterial flora due to cleansing prior to colonoscopy. Simple replacement with pre and probiotics can help resolve the issues. If not, then get the stool tests for three days. Blood tests for CBC, thyroid and liver functions. Watch for the foods and beverages that instigate the problem and stop them altogether. If required, course of metronidazole and probiotics can helps the issues.
