What Causes Chronic Cough Despite Taking Mucinex For Sinus Infection?

I have had a cold/sinus infection for about a week. Have terrible coughing spells where I am coughing so hard, my muscles that are around my right side get very severe sharp pain. Last night had an episode where I felt I was going to pass out, arms and legs started to get numb and tingly. In the past I have been told by a doc this is pleurisy, but in reading on this website, does not appear to match symptoms. Plan to get to my doctor today, but would like to know your thoughts on this. I am currently in a lot of pain from coughing, head and neck ache. Have been home treating with mucinex, sudafed, and at night a concierge cough syrup. No fever at this time. Very upset stomach this morning, feel like going to be sick.

Allergist and Immunologist 's  Response
Hi,

The cause of your cough might be a disease called gastroesophageal reflux, fluids from the stomach goes up and this gives cough. This situation is usually at night when you are lying. Another possible cause might be the sinus infection producing a lot of secretions that goes in the throat and gives a cough. Cough also might be a symptom of an allergy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
