What Causes Chronic Cough Along With Muscle Spasms In The Back?

I have a child 14 years old with horrible muscle spasms in his back from coughing for a week. He threw his back out totally. I want to give him 10 mg of flexeril that I already have for my back. What do you think. He weighs about 125. I will give it at night to rest and heal. I am very familiar with back pain. I am just asking your advice on giving a 14 yr old boy at 125 lbs a 10mg flexeril. He has been on 2 aleve and that barely does anything for the spasm. I know if I can get control of the spasm, he can heal.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Welcome.
I have gone through your query.
As he is less than 15 yr old, better to avoid the agent mentioned by you. I would have suggested initial use of analgesic gel or spray. If not controlled over the counter pain relievers like diclofenac.
It is better if you get him examined by orthopedic surgeon.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
