What Causes Chills, Fever And Headache Weeks After Taking Pep To Prevent HIV?

Hello Dr.Please I will be needing your immediate advice as I cannot access any Dr where I am currently. I am in Africa, I had an eposure with a receptive hiv person, didn t know about his status until a test was done. Started pep 36 hours post consisting of lamivudine, tenofovir and efavirenz once daily for 30 days. While taking pep, I had fever on day 5 with each dose which subside after few hours and this continue for about a week. Later I started feeling cold, chill, fever and headache but not every day. So I felt maybe it was anemia adverse effect of pep. Four weeks post pep now, went for test and its negative but still having intermittent chill, fever, and headache. In your own opinion what could be the problem?

PEP with TLE has a side effect of head ache, but intermittent fever, chills etc. should be evaluated. You may need to run a few blood tests and rule out if there is any underlying disease. Also you can have paracetamol 650 mg, when you feel feverish and chills, drink plenty of hot fluids and see if the symptoms subside.
