What Causes Chills And Body Aches While On Treatment For Chest Pain?

I was seen by a internal medicine Doctor yesterday for a persistent cough and chest pain. Also I am asthmatic. I was told I have bronchitis and prescribed azithromycin as well as a cough suppressant and mucinex. After a day of the medicine I have developed chills, body aches, and a very sharp pain in my belly button every time I cough. My chest X Ray is not scheduled until next week should I go to ER before then. Or is this considered normal with Bronchitis.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

The chills and generalized body pain is common with bronchitis, but the cause for the severe abdominal pain needs to be found. It could be a reaction to the antibiotic but the pain should not be severe.

Please do consider visiting the ER. In the meantime try drinking plenty of water.

Best wishes.
