What Causes Chest Pain On The Left Side?

I experienced chest pain, left side ..like a sharp stitch between the ribs above the heart..worse upon inhalation or twisting movement..not a deep pain but felt right near the surface or just under the ribs..could isolate area under my finger tip..lasts about 2.5 hours..gradually subsides...not trauma or excercise related..happened a month ago under similar circumstances under very light activity..walking etc. when dissipates there is no residual pain after say 4-6 hours later. history of heart disease on both mother and fathers side, but annual check ups show no or very low risk for me. Male 56 years old non smoker, gets moderate excersise 3-5 times a week, 5-11, 175 lbs.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It seems a musculoskeletal pain. Perhaps overstretched muscles between ribs. It might need a few more time for the muscles to heal. So the same for the pain.

If the last cardiac check-up was fine, they should be patient as there's no heart issue. Apply analgesic cream locally to ease the pain.

If it will still persist, then should consult further with an orthopedic doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
