What Causes Chest Discomfort And Severe Cough?

I am a 26 year old male, i dont smoke or drink, and my job requires me sit at a computer for about 10 hours a day. once every 1 or 2 days, i get a sting-like feeling in my throat or chest, and i cough hard for about 5 -10 mins. Thick colourless phlegm finally comes out, and the coughing stops. There are days when i get this 2-3 times, and some other days where it doesn t happen at all. and sometimes it happens when i go to bed. I ve had this problem for more than a year now. Please let me know if i should consult a specialist or go on any meds. Currently i m not taking any meds. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It seems you are sitting in a computer room which is most of the times airconditioned & thus you are exposed to cool air for 10 hours a day. This can cause allergic bronchitis leading to your symptoms. Please consult a chest physician to tackle the problem effectively.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
