What Causes Burnt Smell In The Nose?

I have been sensing a smell of garbage or burned toast on a continuing basis for the last few weeks. what could be the origin. I have rosacea and I sometimes notice it more after I have rubbed my nose, but often it exists when I am simply lying in bed or watching TV. Washing with soaps and use of benzoil peroxide or salicylates seems to have little affect.
