What Causes Burning Sensation On The Left Side Of The Skull?

Sometimes when I turn my head I get an instant and intense burning sensation, usually on the left side of my skull where it meets my neck. It eventually turns to a tingling sensation before it goes away. This has been happening for a couple of months now. I am 53, female, and I lift weights. I have been in rear end car crashes a couple of times, but not recently. No recent trauma of any kind.
