Hi..
Thanks for the query..
As per your complain loss of taste in mouth and burnt feeling of lips and mouth when having Sjogren's Syndrome seems to be most probably due to
dry mouth or
Xerostomia..
Sjogren's Syndrome has classical symptoms of causing dry mouth and dry eyes..
When there is dryness in mouth due to reduced saliva secretion from salivary glands there is thinning and inflammation of the mucous membranes inside mouth causing burnt feeling..
Secondly loss of taste sense is due to reduction in the function of the tongue papillae that contains
taste buds as saliva is responsible for proper function of the taste buds and in the absence of proper saliva flow there is loss of taste sensation..
Consult a Rheumatologist and get evaluated..
-As of now you should start instilling artificial saliva drops containing Methyl cellulose to lubricate the mouth.
-For dry mouth chew sugar free chewing gums..
-Drink plenty of water.
-Avoid regular mouthwash and use specialized mouthwash that are formulated for dry mouth patients like
Biotene..
-You can also instil artificial saliva drops..
-Suck tart candies as it also stimulates saliva flow..
-Suck ice pops to reduce burnt sensation and sooth the oral mucosas..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
