What Causes Burning Sensation On Abdominal Skin With Rapid Weight Loss?

I am 62, male, 140 pounds. For the past 2 months I have been experiencing some prickly burning sensations along my lower left side and across my lower stomach area. This started in March with a sensation along my lower left side that appeared to also include some swelling along my lower left side - which swelling continues - though in the mornings it appears less to some extent. The sensations appear to be just beneath the skin - and at times have more discomforting that at other times - just short of being a low pain-cramp feeling. The burning prickly sensations seem to make the surface area to my lower stomach feel sensitive to touch at times. At times I seem also to experience pin pinching sensations along the surface areas of my skin elsewhere. I seem to have lost approximately 10 pounds of body weight in the past 2-3 months also. I first became aware of this as people continued to comment to me that I appear to be losing weight. I ve been speculating as to whether I might have some type of parasite, etc., that might be causing this. I ve been told it is not ulcers. Of course, I am clearly not knowledgeable at all in any of these areas.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my surgical experience, the burning below the skin might be an issue with the viral lesion as herpes or else giving neuralgia.

The weight loss is the considerable amount and the same should be evaluated for possible autoimmune process involvement.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
