What Causes Burning Sensation In The Throat With Tremors And Loss Of Appetite?

My brother has dificulty breathing, saying his throat is burning, he is pale and shaky. Hardly any appetite, is sleepy and can only sleep in his chair. Has been through many test in three hospital and out with no explanation on what is happening. He is 80 yrs old, has hardly ever been sick. About a month ago, he was vaccinated with regular flu shot. Could the vaccination have any thing to do with this extreme throat inflammation. He can not talk any more and hardly can swallow food.

I totally understand your concerns about your brother's health.
The following points should be taken into consideration :

1- Your brother have sore throat with chills and loss of appetite. This is most likely an infection. The infection can be viral or bacterial. sometimes infection in this age group can be without fever. Blood tests to determine if this is an infection with a virus (mainly CMV or EBV infections) along with rapid strep testing or culture form his tonsils might guide us to the reason for this case.

2- if there is a viral infection the treatment is only supportive with fluid intake, pain killers, and corticosteroids to help him breath and eat by decreasing the congestion in his tonsils. and he must not do excessive exercises for one month due to the risk of rupture of his spleen.

3- if this is a bacterial infection, then a simple course of antibiotics can be helpful in such a case.

4- The flu vaccination one month prior to this episode has nothing to do with his symptoms and it is actually recommended for your brother due to his age.
