Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
You have non-ulcer
dyspepsia (NUD) that can give rise to abdominal burning pain starting from an area near the umbilicus(navel) and occasionally in retro-sternal/chest area between the lungs.Alcohol only aggravates such kind of pain.
Quit smoking/tobacco in any form.
Stop / reduce caffeine/aerated beverages.
Stop / reduce alcohol. Immoderate alcohol consumption should be avoided.
Hold medications associated with dyspepsia & NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).
Avoid foods and other factors that precipitate symptoms.
Simple dietary precautions may go a long way in alleviating symptoms.
Better eating habits
Regular meal timings: Don’t eat late.
Having unhurried meals.
Not habitually sipping fluids during meals.
Avoidance of excessively spicy and fatty foods.
H2RA (
ranitidine 150 mg orally at bed-time)is especially used if night pain or heart burn is troublesome.
Prokinetic medication such as,domperidon 10 mg 8 hrly for about four weeks will help.
More powerful acid-suppressants (PPI-
proton pump inhibitor e.g.
omeprazole or
pantoprazole ) are seldom required.
Sleep with loose garments at night, to avoid any undue compression over upper abdoman.
