What Causes Burning Sensation In The Left Knee?

In May I went to a wedding and I was getting something out of my suitcase and squatted down and felt a burn sensation across top of left knee, just above knee cap. It did not hurt really for a few weeks. Then started swelling above and on inside around cap. Went to dr twice and they said just ice it but now it is Aug and it still hurts, it s tender if I touch inside of knee

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Burning sensation in the knee is commonly due to Patellar tendonitis. The tendon gets inflamed causing a burning sensation in & around the knees.

However, visit a GP, get physically examined. Get blood tests done to rule out OA & RA. If positive get treated.

Patellar tendonitis can be treated by physical therapy, take the help of a physiotherapist.

To reduce pain & swelling do not do any activity that triggers the pain. Cold compression is helpful. OTC like Naproxen & Combiflam is effective.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
