What Causes Bump On Fingers With Discoloration?

I am a 40 year old male. Have a hard, painful corn like bump on the fingers on my left hand - on the palm side on the first ridge on the fingers. There is also some dark discolouration. Used a razor to remove what I thought to be small corns from the affect sites about 2 weeks ago. Any thoughts please

Hello,

You are having hard, painful bumps on the fingers of your left hand and on the palm. Corns or calluses on the hands may be due to repeated pressure of activities such as playing instruments and using hand tools or even a pen. Sometimes, it can also be due genetics, the type of corn that forms on non-weight-bearing areas, such as the soles and palms (keratosis punctata) are due to genetics.

Wear padded gloves when using hand tools. Or try padding your tool handles with cloth tape or covers to protect your fingers and palm. Apply a moisturizer to the corn or callus and its surrounding dead skin everyday. It will soften the skin. You can also apply creams or ointments that contain urea, salicylic acid, or ammonium lactate. These ingredients will soften the skin over time.

You can take acetaminophen, one stat when needed to get relieve from pain and discomfort. Get clinically examined by a GP, if it hurts. Surgery is recommended only when corns or calluses are extremely painful or when it is causing deformity or interfering with everyday life.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
