What Causes Bruise With Hard Lump On The Leg Post Injury?

I got hit in the leg with a softball about 3 months ago and immidiately i felt it i couldnt put weight on it or walk, it would shake when i put the slightest pressure on it, I pulled my sock down and it appeared like i had a second knee, it was extremely swollen and had a hard lump in the middle with bruising. The swelling has gone down but the muscle/ tendon pain is still very present, there is still a bruise, and a hard lump. It hurts constantly and gets worse and more sharp when i walk or put any weight on it. Is it a Fracture?

Hello,

You got hit on the leg by a softball and thereafter are suffering from bruise and a hard lump that hurts constantly and gets worse when you try to put weight on it or try to walk. Your symptom is indicative of loss of power in the affected leg, it can be due to fracture, ligament or tendon tear or any other internal injury or dislocation.

Get clinically examined by an orthopedist. Get an X-ray, CT or MRI done if required. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected that is causing you symptoms. Stay at rest. Keep your affected leg on a stool when seated or on a pillow when on bed to reduce swelling and pain. Take anti-inflammatory medicine, one stat after food to reduce pain and discomfort. You can also use pain relieving sprays.

Crepe bandage may be helpful. Do not put pressure while walking, take the help of a walking stick or walker. Hard lump may be due to accumulation of fluid or blood clot forming below the skin. Applying ointment Thrombophob on the affected area may be helpful. It can also be due to lack of timely treatment. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
