What Causes Bruise In Right Elbow Post Cardiac Catherization?

Hi. My husband had an heart cath procedure on July 21st through the wrist. The cardiologist wasn t able to go up his right wrist, because he hit branches. So he went in the left wrist. There is no bruising now on the left wrist. However, on the right wrist, the bruising is creeping up past his elbow. Is this something to be concerned about?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It seems in an attempt to catheterize, the blood vessel was broken causing stress to blood vessel itself which shows signs of inflammation. If you find sort of toughness and pain along (Thrombophlebitis), you should see your doctor earliest for oral medication if found needful. At home, you should stop movements of the arm. Apply ointment 'Thrombophobe' available on the counter; apply it lightly. Do not rub or massage. If pain is there, over the counter pill of Ibuprofen taken after meals, would help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
