What Causes Brown Discharge From Vagina While On Mirena?

Hi. I had unprotected sex about a week ago. I m also on the mirena iud (since November 2014,) but about two days after I had sex, I began to have like watery orange brown stuff come out when I pee. Just a little bit though. What could it be ? Could it be an std or maybe something from the mirena? I have very light spottin g and then the watery stuff. HELP :(

Hello,

Brown discharge from vagina when you are on Mirena is nothing to worry about. Women on birth control pills, shots, devices, patch, IUDs experience such symptoms due to hormonal changes. Sometimes, old blood can also come out as a brown discharge. You can get your health care provider check if your Mirena is in correct position. Take care of your hygiene, get clinically examined by a gynecologist to rule out any tear or injury to the private organs due to rough sex.

Avoid unprotected sex. Mirena will help you in not getting pregnant, it will not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases. Avoid multiple partners. Get STD tests done to stay on the safer side. If positive, you will be treated by antibiotics / antivirals. Avoid sex for a couple of days. Stay away from addictions if any.
