What Causes Bright Red Bruise On The Back Of The Calf?

I noticed a random bruise appear on the back of my calf a few days ago. The bruise is still there and has become a bright red with a pale white center. The bruise has caused no pain or discomfort, but as the cause it unknown it leaves me a bit perplexed.

Hi,

It looks to me like broken vein in subcutaneous tissue which is commonly seen in young females. I don't think this is bug bite or allergy reaction. You may have had unnoticed hit during sleep or there was no obvious cause.

You should apply cold compresses and take non-steroid painkillers. If such changes repeat or this one worsen then you should see hematologist and check your coagulation factors in blood.
