What Causes Breathlessness And Rashes To A 8 Week Old Infant?

My 8 week old grandson has been wheezy and having difficulty breathing all week, his GP sent him e to A&E on his first visit lST Mondat to be checked out. He has since been back to A&E again where he was given an inhaler and his parents told it was a viral infection. (His 2 yr old broter is also suffering from similar symptoms. They had to revisit their GP this morning, and he asked them to return to see him tomorrow. I have just heard that the baby is now being admitted to hospital as his breathing is much worse and he now has a rash all over his body. The diagnosis is that he has a viral infection. Could you explain to me please what happens now Many thanks, I am extremely worried. Anne

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi.. In view of the following symptoms there is a possibility of bronchiolitis or croup. They can be caused by viral infection and can cause worrisome problems. Also the precipitating factors can be any other family member being affected. The child will need nebulisation and monitoring for at least 24 to 48 hours. Most of this illnesses are self limiting and the child improves.
