Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Breathlessness And Elevated Pulse Rate After Taking Synthroid?
yes please. I have cystic fibrosis and have been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I have to have surgery next month to remove thyroid. In the meantime, I started Synthroid (half dose working up to full dose) over a week ago and my shortness of breath has gotten much worse than normal and pulse is very fast (normal is 110 now 130 when I walk a tiny distance). Could Synthroid cause such side effects? Thank you.
Hi & Welcome. I appreciate your concern for the breathlessness and high pulse rate. Incomplete data: Age, gender, is synthroid being prescribed by a doctor?
Features described in your query are suggestive of adverse effects due to Synthyroid apparently caused by its larger doses.
I would advise you to consult your treating doctor to adjust the dose and also to rule out other causes of breathless ness and tachycardia like respiratory tract infections which are commonly associated with Cystic fibrosis.
Hope I could have answered your query.
