What Causes Body Chills During A Dental Procedure?

i AM 61 YEARS OLD IN GOOD HEALTH EXCEPT FOR TAKING LOSARTAN HCT AND LIVLO WHICH CONTROLS MY HB Pressure & Chol I had several dental procedures in the past - extractions, root canals. I have never had any problems and no fear of going to the dentist. However, this week I went to the dentist my blood pressure was high when I arrived. I thought it was due to driving in heavy traffic for over hour and a problem at the office before I left. I was also a little nervous about this appt because the last time I went in with pain I was put amoxicillin and told to come in 1 week for the extraction. When I came back, even on amoxicillin I had an infection under the tooth and had to two teeth instead of one due to the infection. This time a new dentist wanted to do the same thing. I asked if I could come back the next night to have it extracted to avoid the problem like last time. she agreed that I probably should not wait a week. We waited for my blood pressure to go down before she started. She gave me three dosages and tried to see if I was numb. There was small area in the middle of the tooth that was not numb. She gave a fourth dose. I begin temors. They though it was because I was cold and gave me a blanket. She was able to pull the tooth without any complications. What the temor caused by too much medication, a reaction to the medication, my being nervous, stressed, and blood pressure up or was it she hit a large vein? I need to have a crown for the tooth next the one extracted so as not lose it and to be able to chew. I am little concerned after the tremors. I can find a lot of information on line about this where is has happened to other people, but I cannot reasons and ways to prevent it. The tremors ended soon after I left her office. But I was extremely tired the next day and had a headache. Of course I had been up from 4Am to 9:30 pm the day before. I had get up at 4 Am the next morning. But I slept the day after from 4 pm to 5:30 am. Thanks for your opinion.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

As per my clinical experience, the issue of tremors can be from multiple factors like stress, procedure-related changes in the hormone levels or else.

BP alteration or hitting veins do not sound like possibilities.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel,
