What Causes Blurred Vision Post Treatment For Conjunctivitis?

Last Monday i woke up with part of my left eye red, and went to the hospital where i was told i had suffered some sort of trauma. It cleared up but i developed symptoms of pink eye on both eyes some days later, and on Thursday i went to the doctor again, who told me it was an allergic reaction but could possibly be a viral conjunctivitis. She prescribed me with antibiotic eye drops. The day after (Friday) i woke up with my left eyelid swollen, and I ve been experiencing blurred/foggy vision from that eye ever since, which doesn t clear up when i blink or rinse. Is this normal or should i seek more help? And is this permanent?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You had viral conjunctivitis and had it treated with the prescription eye drops. Presently, you have swollen eyelid and also have blurred/ foggy vision. Blurred or foggy vision commonly occurs due to eye injury, swelling eyelid, ocular herpes, blepharitis, stroke, glaucoma, etc. Other medical condition that causes blurry vision is optic nerve inflammation, corneal inflammation, scratched cornea, blood sugar fluctuations, eye strain, etc.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by an Eye specialist to detect the cause of swelling of the eyelid so that the treatment can be started. In the meantime, you can apply Ciplox eye drops to prevent spread of infection. Do not touch or scratch your eyes. If pain or discomfort, you can take acetaminophen, one SOS when needed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
