What Causes Blurred Vision And Dry Eyes?

Hello! I am a 37 yr old female and am overall healthy and active (5 4 115 lbs). I was leaving Whole Foods this afternoon and suddenly could not see out of my right eye as I was walking to my car. It did not feel as if anything was in my eye so assumed that it was my contact and removed it when I got home. However, the vision has not returned. It is like looking through a very cloudy or milky eye. The haziness has a whitish hue to it. Is this something that typically will pass with resting of the eye? How long should I wait to see if it continues before calling a doctor (I am temporarily living in a neighboring state to my eye specialists). A little eye history for me: I see a specialist for sixth nerve palsy in my left eye. I also have severe dry eye and do not wear my contacts often and only four hours when I do. They had been in for maybe 40 minutes when this happened. Also, my doctor sent me to a retina specialist last year because I had had an incident after a workout where it was as if my eye was a pond of water and someone had dropped a rock into the middle of it (this was my left eye though). There were continuous ripples going from the center of my eye to the outer edge and the final edges of the outer ripples had very bright flashes of colors (red and yellow), faint in color and similar to what you would see if you held crystal up to light. The retina specialist labeled it a probable ocular migraine . He did discover during the testing that I will be developing macular degeneration some day. He said that the back of my eyes were extremely light and that there was modeling in the macula area of both eyes. He said that I should have my eye doctor check this annually. Thank you for any advice that you can offer!

Hello,

Yes, blurry vision is a symptom of dry eyes. Other dry eye symptoms include burning eyes, itchy eyes, a feeling that something is in your eye, red eyes and pain in the eye. Depending on the cause of dry eyes, the tear film may evaporate very easily or it can become too oily or filled with mucus.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Esmeralda Sera, Oncologist
