What Causes Blurred Vision After Taking Montek-LC?

hello doctor, my daughter has been taking montek lc for allergies for the last 2 years. she is 20 yrs old. she recently has started experiencing blurred vision when she reads a lot. from not being able to continuously read for not more than 2 hours, now in 2-3 weeks it is down to less than 15-20 minutes now. we met with a couple of eye specialists and they have diagnosed as dry eyes and given her some eye drops, but also said that any antihistamines being taken, can also cause dry eyes. can you throw some light on the antihistamines like montek lc and that resulting in side effects like blurred vision? thanks in advance. - bhaskar

Hello, Montek - LC contains montelukast plus levocetirizine, which is an antihistamine. One of the possible side effects of antihistamines is blurred vision. Plus as it reduces secretions (used in running nose), it can cause dryeyes or aggravate the existing condition. So it is better to use plain Montelukast tablet for combating allergy.
