What Causes Bloody Vaginal Discharge After Membrane Sweep?

i had a membrane sweep today at 1:15 uk pm, had a bit of bleeding in exam, midwife said i would have a little blood. i did, it went but have just had a larger amount of bloody mucous like discharge. quite fresh blood not brown! is this normal too? was cm dilated at exam and have had a few crampy tightenings? thanks

Hi,
some women do have increased amount of blood stained mucous like discharge after membrane sweep. This is normal. This happens just prior to/with the onset of labour. But if you are having only fresh bleeding and soaked half a pad or more this is usually not normal. Go to the emergency room immediately.
What was the dilatation at the time of sweeping. Are you getting crampy tightenings every ten minutes or less. This is suggestive of onset of labour and you need to go to hospital.
If the tightenings are infrequent, you can wait untill they become frequent.
