What Causes Bloody Urination After A Back Surgery?

I had back surgery last Wednesday, they used a catheter. They had difficulty inserting the catheter. After, I was peeing straight blood and blood clots for hours. It cleared up by the end of the night. Now a week later I started to have a few drops of blood when starting to urinate. It started to burn a little. Went to the dr for urinalysis, and it showed blood and bacteria. Dr put me on cipro. Now I m passing worm like clots. Is this normal after having a catheter??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

This is a urinary tract infection. It is favoured from the catheterisation. The trauma you suffered while putting a catheter on may be the cause of infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Olgeta Xhufka , General & Family Physician
