Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my husband has been complaining of a little blood in his stool this morning and he vomited last night. we ate the same foods yesterday and i feel fine. how serious is this problem? should we wait to go to an emergency clinic. he has pains in his gut like cramps.
Your husband seems to have had some infection of his gastrointestinal tract which can be managed with a course of an antibiotic and antiprotozoal drugs like Norfloxacin and Metronidazole respectively under the prescription of your treating physician. You may try some antispasmodics like Buscopan for his colicky pain which may be available over the counter.
Please give him lots of fluid to avoid dehydration. Its not necessary that same food should cause infection in everyone who eats it as the level of immunity may vary from individual to individual.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
