What Causes Blood In Urine?

What might cause possible blood in urine? I had an aching pain on my right side today and felt nauseous .......came on very sudden.......I went to the bathroom after the pain had somewhat subsided and thought that it had a pink tint....... 6:30--ish....... Just went again, 9:30 and saw the same thing. The pain is still subsided somewhat and I don t hurt anywhere else. Can I wait until tomorrow to see a Dr? Thank you~~~Christi Just in case it s important, I am a 47 year old female with 2 children and have never had any issues with periods.

Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Brief answer: Probably kidney or urinary tract stone.

Detailed answer: The most common cause of presence of blood in the urine is kidney stones, also stones, may be present in other part of the urinary tract including ureters or the bladder. When a stones moves, it may damage the internal surface of the ureters or the bladder, which leads to red blood cells present in the urine.

So in this cases, it is recommended to perform an ultrasound of the urinary tract to check if there is any presence of stones. Also, UTI (urinary tract infections) may be a cause of blood present in the urine. You should do a simple urine analysis, to check if there is any presence, or signs of infections. If the results will be positive, you should use a course of antibiotics. A rare case, but very important are tumors of the urinary tract. The first step is to do an ultrasound to check if there is any presence of suspicious mass. These are the most common causes of presence of blood in the urine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Genti Mulla
