Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had blood in my urine for almost a month now. Had a CT urogram which showed a 5 x 3 mm calculus in right lower pole. Haven t seen my urologist yet but I have an appointment Monday. Wondering if this could be the reason for blood in my urine.
Renal calculi can sometimes cause blood in the urine (hematuria). It can occur if there is damage to the endothelium of the urinary tract. However, Red blood cell casts indicate a damage to the glomerulus itself as in glomerulonephritis. It would also be advisable to get a comprehensive health evaluation which would include an ekg, blood pressure, hemogram and a test for renal function (Blood urea, Sr.creatinine, Glomerular filtration rate) along with a repeat urine exam to look for any other abnormalities.
