Hi,
Normally, blood in the semen may be normal, particularly, if it is first time, you are having it. It may be due to infection or inflammation of
prostate, rupture of any small vein during the process of erections etc. Generally, if the episode is first time, you are supposed to wait for some time. Otherwise the treatment will depend on the cause like antibiotic or anti-inflammatory etc. If the problem still persists, you are supposed to go for further testing and treatment accordingly.
However, as your PSA is rising, so you should be tested specifically for prostatic cancer, as the chances of prostatic cancer are 15%, if PSA is between 4-10. However, in your case, as it is a rising level, so the risk may be even more.
You, may also go for a ratio of free PSA to total PSA, as it is a more strong predictor of prostatic cancer. If more is the ratio of free PSA to total PSA, then, chances of prostatic cancer are lesser. If percentage of free PSA to total PSA is less than 10%, then chances of prostatic cancer are about 50-60%, where as, if it is more than 25%, then chances are Hence, in my opinion, you may be advised to have your prostatic
biopsy for identification of any prostatic pathology and particularly to confirm/rule out presence of a prostatic cancer.
However, best guide will be your
urologist, to decide the pattern of your further evaluation and management. Fortunately, prostatic cancer is a slow growing
tumor, hence, in my opinion, even if it is there, it should not make much difference in the prognosis of your illness within a duration of 6-8 weeks.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
