What Causes Blood And Mucus In Stool?

My father just was released from a rehab facility after a week of being there due to being in the hospital the week before pneumonia and mersa. Bringing himhome today he had terrible adominal cramping and preceded bou ts having very loose stool with mucuos and blood. He has had 7 bouts of this in the last 5 hours. I believe it is C-Dif. What do we do about this?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If you had mentioned about the antibiotics which were administered to him, we would have been very sure about the diagnosis.

But I believe the treatment for MRSA covers clostridium difficile very well, so I think it might be any superadded infection.

You should have your father’s stool culture and sensitivity done. Treatment for clostridium difficile includes metronidazole and vancomycin (which is also used in MRSA) thats why clostridium difficile looks an unlikely diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammad Adnan Iqbal
