What Causes Blocked Ear After Waking Up?

my left ear feels stopped up or clogged with a good bit of pressure in it after I wake up from sleeping on my left side, usually I can pop my ear and it goes away but today when I woke up and had this issue, it never went away, any idea on how to get this to stop?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, it is quite normal and physiological process of heaviness or blocking involving one ear after sleeping on the same side due to raised blood circulation under pressure.

* Usual cases do clear within next 10-15 minutes of period, without any of the intervention needed.

* However, if persistent beyond this time period, one has to be cautious for any pressure injury to internal organs or bones most likely from maleus, incus or stapes. A visit to your ENT specialist is mandated from this regard.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
