What Causes Bleeding From Scar Folds After A Double Mastectomy?

Had a double mastectomy Sept 5. Still having fluid on left chest wall. 500 cc one month ago, then a hematoma within the seroma. Tonight I have bleeding (oozing) from the scar folds on my right chest wall. I had been advised to wrap my chest but have been very protective of the right chest area. Any idea what my be happening?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Proper drainage is essential after all such procedures, and it could be possible that a drain was removed prematurely. At this point in time, reopening the incision, debridement and placement of a new drain may be required if this continues. For now, make sure antibiotic coverage is in place, make an appointment with your surgeon ma'am.

Best wishes.
