What Causes Black Toenails While On Gemfibrozil?

I,ve been on gemfibrazole for about a year before that I was on Lipitor. My toes started to turn purple then black and I had extreme burning in them. I stopped Lipitor for a couple months and they scabbed up I lost about a 1/4 inch of my 1 toe. the burning stopped. my doctor changed to gemfibrizole after about a year my black toes are back. I stooped the med. about 6 days ago and the burning has again stopped any suggestions?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It is not related to Gemfibrozil.

Most probably it will be due to the poor blood supply to the feet.

Consult a general surgeon and get an arterial Doppler to assess the blood supply to feet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
