What Causes Bitter Taste In Mouth?

I apparently have a cold or upper respiratory systems. It just started yesterday. The one odd thing is that I have a terrible taste in my mouth when I try to swallow any food other then items with vinegar. It kind of taste bitter or the taste from an infected tooth. I know it doesn t have anything to do with my teeth since my mother has the same systems. Do you have a clue as to what is going on? I ve never experienced this before

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain alteration in taste or a bitter taste in mouth occurs due to cold or upper respiratory track infections which leads to congestion in the nasal passages leading to reduced efficacy in the sense of smell leading to alteration in taste..

In case if you have started with some medicine for the cough and cold can lead to alteration in taste..

Alteration in taste can also occur in case you have a post nasal drip and it causes foul smell as well as bad taste..

As it is happening for the first time you need not to worry and cold can be the reason for it..

Keep yourself well hydrated..

You can take Decongestants like Sinarest to open the nasal passages and clearing of phlegm will help in relieveing the bitter taste..

You can inhale steam with boiled water with few drops of Eucalyptus oil in it..

Hope your query is solved..
