What Causes Bilateral Renal Cortical Thinning And Renal Cysts?

My ultrasound results showed thinning in both kidneys as well as cysts in both. My anion gap is 10.9 and my gfr is less than 60. It was suggested that i repeat an ultrasound in 3 months. My question is should i be concerned. My doctor is unfortunately not the best and is always too busy to answer questions or concerns. I have no idea what any of this means or could mean. Should i be looking for a new doctor who seems to actually care about me?

Hi,

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that these echo findings could be related to polycystic kidney syndrome, which is a genetic disorder, carachterized by progressive cystic degeneration of the kidney tissue.

Does any of your family members suffer from kidney disorders?

Coming to this point, there is not too much to do, besides follow up with kidney ultrasound after 3 months and kidney function tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka,
