What Causes Back Ache And Pain Around The Ribs Upon Breathing?

Hi, yesterday at work I bent down to get something and needed help getting up. I had shooting pain in back on the right side at rib level. when I would breath deeply, it would hurt more. Doctor said muscle strain, but I m a little concerned. Been using heating pad, and feeling better. I am concerned it may be a gall bladder infection or kidney infection. any thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your description, it is typically the muscle spasm, your muscles need relaxants to improve. It is not kidney pain as it started suddenly, pain increases on movements only and you had no other urinary symptoms too. It is also not a gallbladder pain as pain of gallbladder occurs in right upper abdomen and in right shoulder along with altered sensations in between your scapula. So take it easy it’s just muscle spasm. I hope you understood the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Maryum
