General Surgeon 's  Response
It is very obvious that your husband's cousin has a major psychiatric ailment. It is very important to diagnose the condition properly, so that the right management can be given. He must be accompanied by a close relative for a Psychiatrist consultation. Doctor can then carry out necessary investigations, also to rule out any organic ailment. After proper diagnosis has been made, the doctor can advise on the management, weather as inpatient or as an out patient. Proper Psychologist counseling will also be required. The management would take a long time, possibly in years. It is very important that this person gets good support from family members. Mental ailment is like any physical disease, and hence family support is vital.
