What Causes Absent Periods And Weight Gain In A Person Suffering From Parkinson S Disease?

Hi I am a 57 yr old parkinsons patient. I stopped having my period about 2 1/2 yrs ago. The past 8 mos or so I have gained about 5-6 pounds, all in my tummy area. Urination is normal and I exercise 30 mon per day. How do I know if this is something to worry about?

Hi.
I've gone through your query and I can understand your anxiety.

As you have attained menopause, the hormonal changes will make you gain more weight especially around the abdomen than the hips and thighs.

Along with hormonal changes, aging, lifestyle modifications, genetic factors, stress everything plays a major role in gaining weight. Average expected weight gain would be around 5 - 10 pounds.

I suggest you to follow the below tips to stay fit & healthy.
- Take plenty of protein in the diet as it would help you in increasing the metabolic rate during weight loss.
- Also add high fibre & dairy products in your diet
- Do regular exercises & have green tea
- keep yourself Stress free.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
