What Causes Absent Fetal Heart Beat On Scan During Pregnancy?

Hi according to my lmp i should be 6 weeks pregnant, i know what date i conceived it was the 9 June 2011, have done a home pregnancey test was positive instantly and have had a blood test also positive, went to the doctor this morning and he did a scan and told me i am only 4 weeks pregnant, we could see no heartbeat, but the sac and feotal pole was there, could the doctor have made a mistake in how far along i am

Hi,
I understand your concern.
Absence of heart beats in USG at 6 weeks of pregnancy indicates missed abortion.. that is arrest of fetal groth . Mostly it is due to hormonal deficiency, viral infection to mother ( Like toxo plasmosis, rubella, mumps), high grade fever.
In such case, always follow up scan is advised after 1 week to confirm lack of fetal heart beats. Taking a second opinion is also worth.
